Michael Brewer Supporters

State Attorney Satz,

We the undersigned, as supporters on behalf of Michael Brewer, the 15-year-old boy who was tragically burned by his peers, we urge you to exercise your authority and prosecute all five boys as adults for this horrific, unspeakable act.   By not doing so, you are advocating that teen violence is not as serious an offense as those crimes committed by individuals 18 years of age and older.   This would be an injustice to our children, parents and society as a whole.

Our children need to feel safe, free from all bullying and hate crimes.   It is apparent, from this most recent act of violence, the existing bullying and hate crime laws have failed in protecting our young both in, as well as out of school.   We as a society have a responsibility, both morally and ethically, to ensure all children never have to endure such acts of violence.

It is time to take a stance and stop the violence.   It is time for you to set an example, a precedent, that these types of crimes will be punished to the maximum extent possible.   You have the legal authority to do so and we urge that you exercise that authority.
